The Convex Mirror Company's fabrication process starts with the manufacturing of the glass lens. The lens is moulded into shape by the use of heat. The silvering process starts with a thorough clean of the glass- removing grease. We then sensitise the glass in order to create a chemical bond between the glass lens and the silver. This enables the silver to adhere to the glass in a uniform manner. The silver layer is then thinned by hand. Backing paint is applied to the reverse of the mirror which creates the unique hand-silvered antique distressed appearance.
